DENTAL INSURANCE

Is Dental Insurance Worth It for You?

Dental insurance isn't always the money-saver people expect. If you only visit the dentist once or twice a year for cleanings, paying out of pocket often costs less than a monthly premium. As an independent broker, I'll help you run the numbers and decide honestly what makes sense for you.

Understanding Dental Insurance and When It Pays Off

Dental insurance plans typically fall into two categories: preventive plans that cover cleanings, exams, and X-rays, and more comprehensive plans that also help with fillings, crowns, root canals, and other procedures. Most plans also cap what they'll pay out each year with a low annual maximum, so it's worth understanding exactly what you're buying before you commit to a monthly premium.

Here's something I tell clients directly: if you and your family only get cleanings once or twice a year and don't have ongoing dental work, you often come out ahead paying out of pocket instead of carrying a monthly premium. Between the premium, deductibles, and waiting periods on major work, many light dental insurance users end up paying more into the plan than they'd ever get back out of it.

On the other hand, if you have kids who may need braces, ongoing dental issues, or you simply want the predictability of a set monthly cost, a dental plan can absolutely make sense. As an independent broker, my job is to run the numbers with you honestly, compare plans from multiple carriers, and help you decide what actually saves you money, even if that means recommending you skip a plan altogether.

Honestly, not always. If routine cleanings and exams are all you need, the premiums you'd pay over a year can add up to more than you'd spend paying out of pocket. I'll help you compare the real costs so you can make the choice that actually saves you money.

Costs vary by plan and carrier, but most individual dental plans run a modest monthly premium. I compare options across multiple carriers so you can see the real numbers before deciding what's worth it for your situation.

Yes, many carriers offer child-only or family dental plans, which can make sense if your kids need regular checkups or orthodontic care. I'll help you find a plan that fits your family's needs and budget.
