I’m JP SaintAmour, a U.S. Army Infantry veteran and a licensed independent health insurance advisor in Tampa, Florida. I help people who don’t get a benefits packet from an employer, the self-employed, 1099 contractors, small business owners, families, and people retiring before 65, find coverage that fits, and I tell them the truth about it.

My story

From the Infantry to health coverage

  • U.S. Army Infantry, 2020 to 2023

    I served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman from 2020 to 2023. In One Station Unit Training I was named the Iron Man of my company, the award for the highest physical fitness score.

  • 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum

    I tried out for a Scout Platoon and was selected, then began training as a sniper. I had a long career ahead of me and every intention of serving it.

  • An early end

    That career ended sooner than planned. I was relieved from service after declining the COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Insurance, and a lesson about what I do well

    I have been in insurance for just under four years. I started in property and casualty, licensed only in Michigan. The work taught me something I had not planned on: I am good at helping people work through a decision that matters to them, and I find it fulfilling.

  • Health coverage

    I moved to health coverage because it matters more to the people I serve than any other policy they will buy. Getting that decision right for someone is the most rewarding work I have done.

  • Licensed in 17 states, and growing

    I hold a Florida resident 2-15 Life, Health & Variable Annuity license (G340342) and non-resident licenses that bring the total to 17 states, and I am adding states toward a national footprint. The full list is below.

  • Built SmartHealthMatch

    I built SmartHealthMatch, a free matching service, so that people outside my 17 states could reach one licensed advisor instead of a call center that sells their number.

Mission

Get every person who calls into the right plan, even when it isn’t mine to sell.

I run the numbers both ways, Marketplace with any credit you qualify for and, if you’re healthy, a private quote, and I show you the trade-offs in plain English. If HealthCare.gov is your best answer, I say so and point you there.

Vision

A country where nobody buys health insurance from a stranger who won’t pick up next year.

On many quote sites, the number you type in is sold to more than one agent. I built my practice, and SmartHealthMatch, on the opposite idea: one licensed person, accountable to you, who is still your contact at renewal.

How I work

What you can expect from me

  • I answer my own phone. (269) 953-2357 rings me, not a call center, seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern.
  • No medical questions on this website. If a private plan needs underwriting, that happens later, directly and securely with the carrier, with your knowledge and at your choice.
  • Your information stays with me. I never sell, rent, or trade it. See the privacy policy.
  • I get paid by carriers, not by you. Commission rates can differ between plans, and I will tell you how I am paid on anything I recommend.
  • I stay after you enroll. Claims questions, mid-year changes, next year’s renewal. Same number.
